Technology Makes Home Movies a Snap

There was a time when only a few families were able to record their family memories in movie form. Home movies were created on cameras that used film, and they weren’t the easiest thing to film and then process and share. Today, technology makes home movies a snap. Even as cameras began to become more portable, they were still pretty pricey. Eleven years into the 21st century, computer advances and innovation in portable devices and their hardware have made the video camera extremely portable and affordable. Sharing the movies you make is as easy as plugging into a USB port, uploading and posting on the internet.

In fact, technology is quickly integrating different devices to do multiple tasks. Phones take photos and shoot videos. They also carry our favorite music in them, and then they can be plugged into our car’s auxiliary port, thus eliminating a pile of CDs. Some of the very portable video cameras have advanced so much in their technology that they are now the size of a cell phone, and many will shoot HD video. They can then be plugged into computers, and some televisions, so that the movies can be shared as fast as they are made.

Because these portable cameras are so convenient, families don’t ever have to miss a special moment. Baby’s first steps, or a cool sunset from a mountain top, or something crazy on the street is right in your pocket. It will be as if your recording, watching and producing your very own direct.tv network. It will be interesting to see what the next generation of portable video cameras will offer in their operating systems. They are truly a technological wonder.

How To Use The Internet

Using the Internet is very easy. Most computers work the same and it is relatively easy to surf the web. The bar at the top of the screen is the most important. This is where you type your destination or URL. All you do is type the name of the website you wish to visit and hit enter and your off. Say you want to go to the google website.  All you do is type google.com in the header at the top of your screen.

There are arrows at the top left-hand corner that allow you to search back and forth through pages. For example, if you accidentally clicked a button and it brought you to another page, simply click the back arrow button and it will take you back to the page you were previously on. The button that is usually right next to the arrows is the refresh button. You use this when you want to refresh a page. Sometimes a page will freeze up and all you have to do is push this button.

There are so many different ways to use the Internet. Once you get the hang of it, there’s nothing you wont be able to do. Search engines, such as google, are probably the most useful sites. If you don’t know the name of a website, all you do is type what you are looking for in the google box and it will give you a list of places in your search.  For example, say you are looking to find a place to play online bingo.  You would just type in your search query and the search engine will give you a list of sites where you can play bingo online.

The Internet is your one-stop-shop for everything and anything.  You can find reputable resources for research, download movies, play games online and connect with friends.   The best part, it is extremely user friendly.

Is Windows 8 Operating System Coming Too Soon?

Microsoft seems to be moving fast on a new operating system. The big commerical blitz for Windows 7 assured the consumer that this would be the most user friendly system the company had ever produced. It is easy to navigate, but whether the average user notices is questionable. There is a certain segment of society who knows very little about their computers. They just want to turn them on and have them work. Windows 7 does that. Therefore, is Windows 8 operating system coming too soon? Is it really necessary?

If Microsoft is starting leak rumors about it, then it must be on its way. To computer geeks, this is exciting. It hints at new technologies to come that will be beyond the hardware and systems people are operating today. One bit of internet gossip claims that Windows 8 and its cornerstone Microsoft Office softeware will be something people can just dive right in to. If it’s that user friendly, then it will be great. If it leaves the older computer user in a state of confusion, it could be a customer service problem. For instance, older computer users are confused by the newest Microsoft Office software. The tabbed tool bar is set up under some kind of youth logic that leaves the older user in the dust. To shift something more simple, like Works or Wordpad, will only create more confusion since they aren’t always compatible with other software.

None of the technology is perfect, but it all needs to be as simple and learnable as possible to satisfy the masses. Hopefully, Windows 8 will be a smooth transition that is inclusive of all generations of users. The other scary part is wondering when some of the older operating systems will become obsolete. When does 2000 become unsupported? Should people be replacing computers as fast as Microsoft replaces operating systems? Technology is a great thing, but sometimes it gets a little self gratuitous and forgets to make itself accessible to the people who buy it.

Save Your Old Hardware

It’s not unusual for people to replace old computers before they actually become obsolete. As technology continues to advance, people will be forced to upgrade or replace existing equipment to take advantage of the latest offerings. That doesn’t mean old hardware has no use. In fact, it’s not a bad idea to save your old hardware for emergencies and backup. Here are a few ideas for getting the most out of old equipment.

Old hard drives can be great storage or backup drives. If you’re an audiophile, or you have different categories of files that you like to keep in separate places, a perfectly good old hard drive can be recycled for storage and backup purposes. Even if operating systems or software are not compatible with the new computer, there are businesses that can retrieve the stored information for you.

Keyboards and monitors are not a bad idea to keep around for possible equipment failures. An extra mouse of two doesn’t hurt either. The average computer user may not think these things are necessary, but it can be a real cost savings if you’re forced to unexpectedly replace a monitor or other hardware. In that case, hang onto old CD or DVD drives, too. Even if you think you’re hanging on to obsolete equipment, keep in mind that there are developers who work to integrate the old and new so that old information can be transferred to new computers. For instance, there is even software and hardware that converts old mediums, like vinyl records and VCR tapes to newer digital formats. Ask anyone who held onto his old records if he’s glad he did. The answer will be a resounding “yes” as he transfers all of that great old music to his computer.

Hang onto that old hardware, and count on technology to make it valuable one more time.
