The Learning Advantages of the Internet

Everyone knows that the Internet is a powerful tool. You can use it to work from home, find information, socialize with others, shop and more. When it comes to the act of learning, the Internet is unmatched in many respects.

The Replacement of Books

It used to be that if you wanted to read about a topic, you visited the library or the bookstore. Now you have instant access to information. Even more importantly, the information is organized using search engines and credible websites that instantaneously lead you to exactly what you need. You no longer have to flip through the index of a book or a card catalog at the library. Finding the right book takes time and money. The information you find on the Internet is often free and doesn’t take up space on a bookshelf as does a book.

Online Learning Tools

With technological advancement also come software systems that assess knowledge and provide performance reports. You can take courses online that allow you to take tests and gauge your learning as you go along. Earning a degree online is often an efficient way to achieve academic goals, particularly if you must work and/or take care of children.

Learning Through Social Networking

The social networking aspect of the Internet is also a powerful learning tool. When you want information or an opinion, you can often have it instantly by posting a question on a social networking site or in an Internet forum. How To Use The Internet

Using the Internet is very easy. Most computers work the same and it is relatively easy to surf the web. The bar at the top of the screen is the most important. This is where you type your destination or URL. All you do is type the name of the website you wish to visit and hit enter and your off. Say you want to go to the google website.  All you do is type google.com in the header at the top of your screen.

There are arrows at the top left-hand corner that allow you to search back and forth through pages. For example, if you accidentally clicked a button and it brought you to another page, simply click the back arrow button and it will take you back to the page you were previously on. The button that is usually right next to the arrows is the refresh button. You use this when you want to refresh a page. Sometimes a page will freeze up and all you have to do is push this button.

There are so many different ways to use the Internet. Once you get the hang of it, there’s nothing you wont be able to do. Search engines, such as google, are probably the most useful sites. If you don’t know the name of a website, all you do is type what you are looking for in the google box and it will give you a list of places in your search.  For example, say you are looking to find a place to play online bingo.  You would just type in your search query and the search engine will give you a list of sites where you can play bingo online.

The Internet is your one-stop-shop for everything and anything.  You can find reputable resources for research, download movies, play games online and connect with friends.   The best part, it is extremely user friendly.

PC Users Choose Your Browser

With so many web browsers to choose from, it can be difficult to decide which in to use while surfing the internet. For some users, there seems to be little difference in the browsers. However, others have noticed problems with certain programs while using different types of browsers.

The most widely used browser is called Internet Explorer. With more than half of the United States using one of the many available versions of the browser, it beats all other browser usage combined.

The second most used computer browser is called Firefox. One of the many advantages of Firefox over the other browsers is that it has a great capacity for adaptability. While IE can do many things and will usually get you where you need to go quickly online, Firefox can make work more productive.

Google recently launched their own web brwser that is said to make the internet itself faster. While some are still undecided about this, many people believe that Google Chrome has many benefits.

Safari and Opera are both other popular browsers that many people use, even though they are not nearly as pervasive as the first two listed here.

All web browsers can be downloaded for free online if you find the right site. It never hurts to have more than one on your computer for several reasons. First of all, if you have more than one account on any website that you want to get into easily, all you have to do is use different browsers for each email account. It works for things like Facebook as well.

Whichever you choose, be happy. It could be worse. You could own a MAC!

Internet Romance is Better Than Clubbing

Does anyone cruise for a date in clubs anymore? Quite frankly, it seems to be an expensive way to satisfy the search, these days. In fact, many people really do believe that internet romance is better than clubbing. Liars will lie whether it’s over drinks or in an email. With enough conversation, virtual or in person, the junk falls to the bottom and the good stuff rises to the top.  The whole idea of meeting a sweetheart via your computer is still a little bizarre to some older generations, but most have probably explored the concept, too.

It’s not that people prefer the two demensional element of internet dating. It’s that people want so badly to be in a relationship, and the internet offers more options for less money. Of course there are companies that charge people to flirt, but there are also free programs and websites that give people plenty of space to mingle. Some will say that you have to pay to get serious. Others have figured out that dating via the internet is best approached like a night out dancing with the girls. If you meet someone, great. If you don’t, it was just fun chatting.

Beyond romance, the internet has expanded our ability to make friends outside of our own towns and cultures. It can really open a person up to new experiences and people. Who knows? Maybe those new experiences, brought on via technology, will open a lonely heart up to person she might not have ever considered otherwise. As we explore other people and cultures via the internet, we explore ourselves, and we grow. It makes the flesh and blood world a new scene viewed through new eyes. Suddenly there are more tall, dark and handsome men than we ever noticed before the internet.
