It’s an assumption of amusements: the virtual world is defined by games and their pixelated rewards, the quick relief of laughter. Computers are meant to bridge the distance between smiles – and users are certain that there are no other considerations to offer. Technology is a useful distraction and nothing more.

How To Share Your Computer Skills With Others

Teaching others to use technology can be a very rewarding experience. Simply being able to use a computer can provide a person with opportunities to e-mail friends and relatives who live in other places, browse the latest news, or do research to learn new things.

Whenever you are teaching someone to use a computer, remember to go slowly and keep in mind that the person you are instructing probably doesn’t know many of the technological concepts that seem to come naturally to you. A little patience will go a long way. Try to ask your student if there are any skills or concepts that they are most interested in learning so that you can tailor your lesson plans to attend to those needs. Additionally, ask the person about what they already know. This will make it so that you’re not being redundant in your teachings.

Once you have successfully taught a new skill, don’t forget to periodically revisit it so that the student won’t forget what they’ve learned. Also, since the best way to become comfortable with a new skill is to practice it often, encourage your students to use what they’ve learned, even when you’re not around to provide guidance.

Finally, even if your knowledge primarily extends to the computer, see if there are other ways that you can provide technological assistance such as learning how to use a blackberry smartphone or program a DVD player. People who have grown up with these items often think of them as second nature and can do much to provide assistance to people who are from another generation or did not previously have access to these technologies.

Everyone knows that the Internet is a powerful tool. You can use it to work from home, find information, socialize with others, shop and more. When it comes to the act of learning, the Internet is unmatched in many respects.

The Replacement of Books

It used to be that if you wanted to read about a topic, you visited the library or the bookstore. Now you have instant access to information. Even more importantly, the information is organized using search engines and credible websites that instantaneously lead you to exactly what you need. You no longer have to flip through the index of a book or a card catalog at the library. Finding the right book takes time and money. The information you find on the Internet is often free and doesn’t take up space on a bookshelf as does a book.

You can take courses online that allow you to take tests and gauge your learning as you go along. Earning a degree online is often an efficient way to achieve academic goals, particularly if you must work and/or take care of children.

When you want information or an opinion, you can often have it instantly by posting a question on a social networking site or in an Internet forum. PC Users Choose Your Browser

With so many web browsers to choose from, it can be difficult to decide which in to use while surfing the internet. For some users, there seems to be little difference in the browsers. However, others have noticed problems with certain programs while using different types of browsers.

The most widely used browser is called Internet Explorer. With more than half of the United States using one of the many available versions of the browser, it beats all other browser usage combined.

The second most used computer browser is called Firefox. One of the many advantages of Firefox over the other browsers is that it has a great capacity for adaptability. While IE can do many things and will usually get you where you need to go quickly online, Firefox can make work more productive.

Google recently launched their own web brwser that is said to make the internet itself faster. While some are still undecided about this, many people believe that Google Chrome has many benefits.

Safari and Opera are both other popular browsers that many people use, even though they are not nearly as pervasive as the first two listed here.

All web browsers can be downloaded for free online if you find the right site. It never hurts to have more than one on your computer for several reasons. First of all, if you have more than one account on any website that you want to get into easily, all you have to do is use different browsers for each email account. It works for things like Facebook as well.

Whichever you choose, be happy. It could be worse. You could own a MAC!

How To Become A Computer Technician

To become a computer service technician, start preparing while you are still in high school if you can. You may even be able to earn a college credit while you are still in high school, depending on where you go to school. If you are already graduated from college, contact the college you wish to attend and ask them about their programs. Most colleges offer technician programs.

There is a certification you will need to get by taking an exam from the Computing Technology Industry Association. There are also other exams you may want to take to increase your chance of becoming hired as a computer service technician.

If you are planning on becoming a computer service technician, you have to be aware that you will need to have additional training often so that you can keep up with the technology since it is always changing. If you wish to get a long-term job in this field, you will need to stay up to date with technology and constantly be learning. Also, if you want to specialize, keeping all your information up to date is vitally important.

Being a computer service technician has many benefits. You will never have to pay anyone to fix your computer since you will be able to do it yourself. Also, since technology is used now days than ever before, you will have more jobs available to you. You will want to start off small and work your way to the top.

Is Windows 8 Operating System Coming Too Soon?

Microsoft seems to be moving fast on a new operating system. The big commerical blitz for Windows 7 assured the consumer that this would be the most user friendly system the company had ever produced. It is easy to navigate, but whether the average user notices is questionable. There is a certain segment of society who knows very little about their computers. They just want to turn them on and have them work. Windows 7 does that. Therefore, is Windows 8 operating system coming too soon? Is it really necessary?

If Microsoft is starting leak rumors about it, then it must be on its way. To computer geeks, this is exciting. It hints at new technologies to come that will be beyond the hardware and systems people are operating today. One bit of internet gossip claims that Windows 8 and its cornerstone Microsoft Office softeware will be something people can just dive right in to. If it’s that user friendly, then it will be great. If it leaves the older computer user in a state of confusion, it could be a customer service problem. For instance, older computer users are confused by the newest Microsoft Office software. The tabbed tool bar is set up under some kind of youth logic that leaves the older user in the dust. To shift something more simple, like Works or Wordpad, will only create more confusion since they aren’t always compatible with other software.

None of the technology is perfect, but it all needs to be as simple and learnable as possible to satisfy the masses. Hopefully, Windows 8 will be a smooth transition that is inclusive of all generations of users. The other scary part is wondering when some of the older operating systems will become obsolete. When does 2000 become unsupported? Should people be replacing computers as fast as Microsoft replaces operating systems? Technology is a great thing, but sometimes it gets a little self gratuitous and forgets to make itself accessible to the people who buy it.

Save Your Old Hardware

It’s not unusual for people to replace old computers before they actually become obsolete. As technology continues to advance, people will be forced to upgrade or replace existing equipment to take advantage of the latest offerings. That doesn’t mean old hardware has no use. In fact, it’s not a bad idea to save your old hardware for emergencies and backup. Here are a few ideas for getting the most out of old equipment.

Old hard drives can be great storage or backup drives. If you’re an audiophile, or you have different categories of files that you like to keep in separate places, a perfectly good old hard drive can be recycled for storage and backup purposes. Even if operating systems or software are not compatible with the new computer, there are businesses that can retrieve the stored information for you.

Keyboards and monitors are not a bad idea to keep around for possible equipment failures. An extra mouse of two doesn’t hurt either. The average computer user may not think these things are necessary, but it can be a real cost savings if you’re forced to unexpectedly replace a monitor or other hardware. In that case, hang onto old CD or DVD drives, too. Even if you think you’re hanging on to obsolete equipment, keep in mind that there are developers who work to integrate the old and new so that old information can be transferred to new computers. For instance, there is even software and hardware that converts old mediums, like vinyl records and VCR tapes to newer digital formats. Ask anyone who held onto his old records if he’s glad he did. The answer will be a resounding “yes” as he transfers all of that great old music to his computer.

Hang onto that old hardware, and count on technology to make it valuable one more time.
